The medal count for Texas in the recently concluded Rio Olympics was thirteen. These medals were bagged by the current and former students of the University of Texas. Of these thirteen medals, it is to be noted that it includes ten gold medals. According to a ranking reported in the USA Today, Texas is tied up at the fourth position with the University of Florida.
Stanford led with a total of twenty-seven medals. The second position was achieved by the University of California (Berkeley) with twenty-two medals. The third position went to the University of Southern California with twenty-one medals. The contingent from the University of Texas had significant success in Rio. They had a total of twenty-five medal opportunities out of which they were able to secure thirteen medals. This created a success rate of more than fifty percent which is significantly higher when compared to the entire roster that was sent to Rio.
Twenty student athletes of UT along with five coaches took part in the Olympics at Rio. It is to be noted that UT has produced at least one gold medal for the last eleven Olympic Games continuously dating back to the Munich Games of 1972.
